Rivtow Marine is a specialist towage services provider engaged by BHP Ltd to operate a large fleet of escort and harbour tugs and associated infrastructure in Port Hedland, Western Australia. Rivtow Marine is a subsidiary company of the Riverside Marine Group which is a privately owned group of companies, with 100 years of operations experience in Australia. The Riverside Marine Group of companies operate a variety of marine-based businesses around Australia, with operations and offices in Brisbane, Townsville, Hay Point, Perth and Port Hedland. 

Rivtow Marine is seeking to appoint a Technical Superintendent

Position Purpose

Rivtow Marine is seeking a professional Technical Superintendent reporting to the Senior Technical Superintendent for its operations in Port Hedland, WA. The successful candidate will ensure the safety, maintenance, technical information and systems are in place to enable the Rivtow Marine fleet of tugs and crew transfer vessels to operate to the highest standards of safety, availability and efficiency, and meet all relevant regulatory, industry and classification codes. 

Position Requirements

  • Minimum MED2 and Master Class 5 Certificates of Competency or relevant trade qualification
  • Demonstrated experience in Fleet Technical Management
  • Ability to obtain MSIC
  • Current ‘C’ Class Drivers License
  • Other relevant certifications as required by Rivtow Marine

Essential Qualifications, Experiences & Capability

  • Previous experience in Offshore/Onshore Marine disciplines
  • Sound understanding of International Safety Management and Safety Management systems, or ability to obtain
  • Familiarization with Class and Flag State / AMSA Rules and Regulations
  • Sound technical knowledge of shipboard systems
  • Sound understanding of computer based planned maintenance systems (ie. SERTICA)
  • Demonstrated flexibility and resilience in dealing with complex issues, and implementation of problem-solving methodology
  • High level of safety awareness and ability to lead / coach others to high safety performance
  • Strong organisational skills with demonstrated time management ability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to identify and build key relationships

Accountabilities

  • Assist the Senior Technical Superintendent in monitoring and managing of Flag State and Class compliance, including vessel defect rectification and modifications
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with Rivtow QHSE Management System and vessels’ Safety Management Systems
  • Assist the Senior Technical Superintendent in ensuring maximum availability and reliability of vessels and associated infrastructure
  • Coach vessel crews and shore-side maintenance team to achieve a high safety performance and strong safety culture
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and client
  • Assist in the ongoing review and development of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Undertake and assist in the conduct of internal technical audits of vessels
  • Implement changes and improvements to the Planned Maintenance Systems
  • Coordinate all vessel Out-Of-Commission (OOC) activities and associated scheduling
  • Monitor and ensure compliance of vessel certification
  • Manage defects and Planned Maintenance System work orders
  • Actively participate in and encourage QHSE Leadership activities
  • Report all accidents, incidents and hazards in a timely manner and in accordance with policy
  • Provide support to the Senior Technical Superintendent, as required
  • Any duties as required by the Senior Technical Superintendent, or supervisor, within the individual's skills and abilities
